Notes

A South Carolina Win Would…

  • Make the Gamecocks 4-1 to start the season, the best mark since opening the 2006-07 campaign with the same record.
  • Give the Gamecocks a 128-73 record against opponents also based in the state of South Carolina, including a 76-18 mark at home.
  • Be the Gamecocks’ seventh straight over College of Charleston.

By the Numbers
.120 South Carolina’s opponents’ combined 3-point field goal percentage this season, the best 3-point field goal percentage defense in the SEC
.652 Gamecocks’ second-half field goal percentage at Illinois, their highest in a half since knocking down the same percentage (both 15-of-23) in the second half against High Point on Dec. 2, 2009
3 South Carolina’s rank in the SEC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.0)
4 Gamecocks who pulled in all or most of their rebounds against Penn State on the offensive end – Ashley Bruner (9 of 18), Charenee Stephens (5 of 8), La’Keisha Sutton (2 of 2) and Aleighsa Welch (6 of 6)
6 Assists handed out by La’Keisha Sutton at Clemson (Nov. 17), her 21st career game with five or more, during which South Carolina is 12-9
18 Rebounds collected by junior Ashley Bruner against Penn State, her career high, which also helped her into fourth in the SEC with 9.0 boards per game

44.3 Percent of points scored by the bench this season (109 of 246)

College of Charleston Series Notes
South Carolina leads the series 13-9, although the two programs have not met since 2005. The Gamecocks have won the last six meetings and 12 of the last 14 dating back to 1978. The Gamecocks are a perfect 7-0 against the Cougars in Columbia with the last meeting on Jan. 13, 2005, resulting in a 67-37 decision. The Cougars’ last win in the series was a 66-63 outcome on Dec. 7, 1991, in Charleston.

Helping Hand
With arguably the best point guard in international women’s basketball history at the helm, South Carolina has been at its best when its assist numbers are highest. In the Dawn Staley era (2008-09 through present), the Gamecocks are 34-15 when handing out 10 or more assists, including a 3-0 mark this season. When missing the 10-assist plateau, South Carolina is just 11-34 overall with Staley, including a 4-20 mark in SEC action. Those records include last season’s 3-10 overall slate and 2-5 ledger in league play.
