COLUMBIA, S.C. — Freshman Kyle Koch from the Gamecocks men’s tennis team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.
Koch helped the men’s tennis team go undefeated in its season-opening doubleheader on Saturday by winning both his single matches and capturing two doubles matches with two different partners.
Koch carried the momentum of the previous week’s 4-2 showing at the SEC Indoor Championships into the start of dual-match play for the Gamecocks. Teaming with sophomore Nick Jones, Koch clinched the doubles point with a win in the top doubles spot against Appalachian State. He went on to post a 6-3, 6-4 win over Steven Karendal in the No. 5 singles position.
In the day’s second set of matches, Koch teamed with senior Henry Walker to complete the doubles sweep for the Gamecocks, posting an 8-4 victory as the No. 3 tandem. In singles, Koch moved up to No. 3 in the lineup and yielded just two games in his two sets against Wofford’s Rob Galloway.
