Chris Rogers, the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance at Ohio State University, has been named Associate Athletics Director for Compliance at the University of South Carolina, it was announced today. He will report directly to both the Athletics Director and the University President.
Rogers has held his current position at Ohio State since November 2007. He has served as a member of the senior leadership team and the primary compliance contact for Football, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field, Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics, Wrestling and Women’s Soccer.
“We are extremely pleased to have Chris Rogers join the Athletics Department,” said Athletics Director Eric Hyman. “He has extensive experience with high profile, highly competitive programs. He certainly understands the NCAA’s expectations for a top-level compliance operation. Having earned both a law and masters degree, he has the skills and acumen to ensure a successful compliance operation on behalf of our University and our Athletics Department.”
“Chris is someone I have known personally for eight years and have worked with as a member of the Big Ten compliance administrator group,” added Judy Van Horn, Senior Associate Athletics Director. “He comes highly recommended, is well respected throughout the Big Ten, and has shared his expertise nationally by serving in a key position within the National Association for Athletics Compliance. After conducting a national search and doing an extensive review of the candidates, we are confident that Chris is the right person to lead our compliance department.”
Prior to Ohio State, Rogers served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance at the University of Utah. During his time at Utah, Rogers served on the senior management team for the athletics department, while coordinating all aspects of the athletic department’s compliance program that served 18 Division I sports. Rogers also taught a class as an adjunct professor in the sport management program related to NCAA Governance and Legislation.
Prior to working at the University of Utah, Rogers worked in the compliance office at the University of Minnesota. Rogers served as the Assistant Director of Compliance (interim), as well as a compliance intern for two years. During this time, he also helped to launch the Minnesota Cross Country Camp, and was the camp’s director for two and a half years. He has also gained experience as the Team Administrator for the San Diego Spirit of the Women’s United Soccer Association (women’s professional soccer), as well as working in the Event Management/Operations Department for the United States Olympic Committee at its training center in Chula Vista, CA.
A native of Moorhead, Minnesota, Rogers participated in cross country and track at the University of Minnesota as an undergraduate, where he earned both his bachelor’s (1999) and master’s (2000) degrees. He later received his juris doctorate from Hamline University School of Law (2005). Rogers and his wife, Nicolle, have two children, Lucas and Tessa.
