COLUMBIA, S.C. – Freshman Katherine Schmidt from the Gamecock equestrian team has been named the AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

Schmidt had a stellar weekend for the Gamecocks in both upset wins over No. 1 Auburn and No. 4 Baylor.

In Saturday’s over the top-ranked Tigers, Schmidt went 2-for-2 in Hunt Seat action. In Equitation on the Flat, she scored an event-high 90 to defeat her Auburn opponent by ten points. In Equitation Over Fences, she knocked off her Tiger opponent, 83-71.

In Sunday’s win over the fourth-ranked Bears, Schmidt went 2-for-2 again, winning both of her rides as the Hunt Seat team swept Baylor, 10-0.

Schmidt is second on the team in total wins with 14 and is tied for the team-high in MVPs with four.
