NEW ORLEANS, La. – South Carolina sophomore forward Damontre Harris has been selected to the SEC All-Defensive Team, as voted on by the league coaches. It was announced on Tuesday in advance of the 2012 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, which will be held March 8-11, in New Orleans, La. The honor is the first All-SEC honor of Harris’ career.

Harris has had a stellar season thus far on the defensive end during his sophomore campaign. Entering tournament play, Harris has posted 70 blocks this season and ranks second in the SEC with 2.3 blocks per outing, which ranks 29th in the nation. Harris has tallied 17 games with at least two blocks and six games with at least five blocks in 2011-12. The sophomore from Fayetteville, N.C., averages 6.8 points and a team-high 5.6 rebounds per game.

South Carolina begins SEC Tournament play on Thursday, March 8, vs. fifth-seeded Alabama. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, with the contest to be televised on the SEC Network.
