WACO, Texas – South Carolina’s Hunt Seat team rebounded from an early loss on Friday, as the Gamecocks defeated Oklahoma State, 5-3, in the Hunt Seat bracket at the 2012 NCEA National Championships.

The Gamecocks advance to Saturday’s fifth-place meet, where South Carolina will compete against Kansas State, beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET at the Extraco Events Center.

Friday’s competition began with Equitation on the Flat, where the Gamecocks and Cowgirls each won two points in an eventful opening to the meet, with three sets of re-rides being awards.

Freshman Katherine Schmidt kicked off her second 2-for-2 performance of the day with a 155-148 victory. Junior Kimberly McCormack also went 2-for-2 in the win over the Cowgirls, scoring her first point with a 30-point victory over her Oklahoma State opponent.

Tied 2-2 at the halfway point, South Carolina rallied, winning the final three points of the event to secure the 5-3 win.

Schmidt capped off her 2-for-2 meet, edging Allie Joyce by two points. Schmidt went 4-for-4 in both of Friday’s Hunt Seat meets for the Gamecocks. McCormack followed, as she picked up a victory over Samantha Elser. Junior Carolyn Curcio closed the door on Oklahoma State in the final ride of the meet, as she dropped the Cowgirls’ Sarah Gesick.

Saturday’s fifth-place meet between the Gamecocks and Kansas State will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET in the covered ring with Equitation on the Flat.
