COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s Andrew Adams earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team as voted by the league’s coaches, the conference office announced today. Playing mostly in the Nos. 2 and 3 singles spots in the lineup, Adams leads the team with 28 victories this season, the fourth-most all-time by a Gamecock freshman.
“I couldn’t be prouder of Andrew for what he has accomplished during his freshman season,” South Carolina head coach Josh Goffi said. “He battled like a true champion match after match, and it’s only fitting for him to be recognized as one of the best freshmen in, arguably, the best conference in the country.”
Adams turned in a 20-6 dual-match record in singles, including an 11-2 mark in the No. 2 spot in the order and a 9-3 record at No. 3. One of just seven SEC freshmen to regularly play in the top three singles spots, Adams’ six wins in league play were among the highest count of the group. In the team’s 15 wins this season, Adams provided the clinching point five times and won seven second sets by 6-0 scores in dual-match play.
As a team, South Carolina is 15-11 overall and are ranked No. 41 in the nation. The Gamecocks will find out on Tue., May 1, at 5:30 p.m. if they have been selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.
