COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major has announced the signing of Haiden DeJane (Mead, Colo./Mead High School) to a national letter of intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2012-2013 season. DeJane will be competing with South Carolina’s Western team.

DeJane trains with with Mark Guynn, and has competed at a variety of levels. Some of her youth highlights include:

“We are thrilled to have Haiden join the Gamecock family,” associate head coach Ruth Sorrel said. “She is bringing talent in and out of the arena, after being awarded the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2011/2012.”

Recently graduated from Mead High School in Longmont, Colo., Dejane was on the school’s dance team for four years, two of which she served as captain. DeJane has experience outside of the show world, as she played on the school’s golf team all four years.

DeJane also brings an impressive academic resume to the Gamecocks, where she earned an academic letter three different times during high school. She served two years as secretary of the National Honor Society, and is the past vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America. In 2012, she earned Academic All-State First Team honors, and in 2010, she was named Chemistry Student of the Year.

While at South Carolina, DeJane will major in International Business in the Darla Moore School of Business.

Born in Tarzana, Calif. to parents Guy and Jami DeJane, Haiden has three siblings (Kyle – 22, Kaila – 20, and Hunter – 15). Before signing with South Carolina, DeJane also considered Pepperdine University.
