COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin was honored by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council on Wednesday, which included City of Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin declaring the day “Frank Martin Day” at a welcome breakfast in downtown Columbia.

The day started with Martin and his wife Anya attending the Columbia Chamber Welcome Breakfast, which also included the unveiling of a US Airways Magazine feature on the City. Martin was introduced to the capacity crowd by South Carolina athletics director Eric Hyman and he spoke on his time in Columbia thus far and the Gamecock men’s basketball season ahead.

The day continued with the Community Relations Council’s 48th Annual Luncheon, which was held at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center at mid-day. Martin began the event with an autograph session and was again joined by his wife Anya. His keynote address saw him once again speak on Gamecock basketball, his time in the Columbia community and also other anecdotes from his time as a coach.

Martin also mentioned that the basketball team’s recruiting class and 2012-13 schedule will be released soon.
