University of South Carolina assistant athletics director – marketing, Eric Nichols, has been selected as the 2nd Vice President/Secretary of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), it was announced at the organization’s 21st annual convention.

Nichols joined the University of South Carolina athletics department in June 2008. He oversees all aspects of athletics marketing and serves as the marketing liaison to the athletics ticket office, Web site and video production, as well as Gamecock Sports Properties, Barnes and Noble merchandising, university licensing and communications and Global Spectrum.

Nichols came to Carolina following a successful stint at Vanderbilt University, where he served as the athletic department’s Director of Marketing and Promotions since January of 2004.

Nichols was at Vanderbilt since 1998, starting as an assistant director of facilities but quickly working his way upward as his talents were recognized. He was director of game operations from 2000 to 2002 before being promoted to director of online services, a position he held for two years. His work with the department’s official Web site led to his promotion to Director of Marketing in 2004.

NACMA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics marketing administrators.
