CLEVELAND — South Carolina junior Samantha Swinehart carded a second-round 74 (+2) on Tuesday to make the cut at the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

Swinehart wrapped up stroke play in a tie for 32nd with a two-round total of 146 (+2) as she was one of 64 golfers to advance to match play. The Lancaster, Ohio, native had another steady day, recording 14 pars, one birdie and three bogeys.

Incoming freshman Sarah Schmelzel narrowly missed the cut after posting a solid round of 73 (+1). She finished stroke play in a tie for 66th with a total of 150 (+6), which was one stroke off the cut line. A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Schmelzel had an up and down round with five birdies, six bogeys and seven pars.
