DALTON, Ga. — The South Carolina men’s golf team posted a score of 296 (+8) on Saturday in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club.

The Gamecocks will head into the final round in a tie for 13th with a two-day total of 592 (+16).

Carolina has two golfers in the top 20, as senior Dykes Harbin and freshman Matt NeSmith are tied for 19th with two-round scores of 144 (E).

NeSmith led the Gamecocks on Saturday with his second straight round of 72 (E). A native of North Augusta, S.C., NeSmith began his day with a birdie on the 10th and remained at 1-under until a bogey at 15 moved him back to even par. He birdie the next hole to get the stroke back but made the turn at even after recording bogey on No. 18. NeSmith was unable to go any lower on the back nine as he recorded two birdies, two bogeys and five pars to finish the day at even par.

Harbin got off to a strong start with six straight pars and a birdie on No. 16 but he hit a rough stretch as he double bogeyed the 18th and made bogey on two of the next three holes to drop to 3-over. He got it back to 2-over with a birdie on No. 7 but bogeyed the ninth to wrap up a round of 75.

Junior Caulder Moore turned in a 2-over 74 and is tied for 45th with a two-round score of 149 (+5). Moore recorded five birdies, five bogeys, a double bogey and seven pars on the day.

Sophomores Caleb Sturgeon and Sean Kelly carded rounds of 75 (+3) and 77 (+5), respectively. Sturgeon is in a tie for 71st with a total of 155 (+11), while Kelly is in 74th place with a score of 157 (+13).

Defending national champion Texas shot up the leaderboard to take the lead by firing a 22-under 266 on Saturday. The Longhorns hold a three-shot lead with a total of 559 (-17). Georgia is in second with a score of 562 (-14), followed by LSU (573), No. 1 Alabama (573) and Clemson (573).

Texas’ Brandon Stone is atop the individual leaderboard after shooting a 9-under 63 to take his two-round total to 132 (-12). He holds a one-shot lead over Georgia’s T.J. Mitchell, who is in second with a total of 133 (-11).
