CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – South Carolina’s surge through the UTC/Steve Baras Fall Classic ended in the finals of the top flight of both singles and doubles Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Kyle Koch and junior Chip Cox came up short in the doubles final, while Koch’s push through the top singles bracket ended with a tough loss in the final as well.
The Gamecocks had a slow start to the morning with their doubles match against UNC Greensboro’s Randy Phillips and Jimmy Dougherty. The Spartans picked up multiple service breaks to win the Flight 1 title 8-3 over Koch and Cox.
In singles, East Tennessee State’s sophomore Rogerio Ribiero managed to complete his sweep of the Gamecocks in the flight with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Koch after he had defeated Cox in the quarterfinals on Friday.
South Carolina sophomore Andrew Adams opens play in the ITA All-American qualifying on Monday. The entire Gamecock team will be back in action on Oct. 18 at the ITA Carolina Regional in Cary, N.C.
