COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ryan Arambula and Gabrielle Gilbert from the South Carolina men’s and women’s soccer teams have been named Co-AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

Arambula scored the first goal of his career, which was also the first game-winning goal of his career, in South Carolina’s 2-1 victory vs. UCF in Conference USA action on Sunday. The win marked the first of the league season for the Gamecocks. Arambula posted the game winner in the 59th minute. After a pair of shots from his teammates hit off the post, and another saved off the goal line from a UCF defender, Arambula was in perfect position at the top of the six-yard box, and hit a one-time strike low and to the left side of frame to secure the goal. Arambula has seen action in nine contests with three starts this season. He has seven shots, and one assist in addition to Sunday’s goal.

Gabrielle Gilbert has been instrumental in the recent offensive resurgence at South Carolina, culminating with the game winning goal Sunday vs Georgia for Carolina¹s first SEC victory of the season. Gilbert scored in the 21st minute against the Bulldogs to give South Carolina their first regular season win over the Bulldogs since 2006, ending a streak of five consecutive regular season matches without a win against their rival. Gilbert has been South Carolina¹s version of a utility player, starting both matches this weekend at defender before moving up into the right forward position. In addition to scoring or assisting on three of South Carolina’s five goals in SEC play, Gilbert was instrumental as the starting right back in holding Tennessee to only four shots on goal and Georgia to only five shots in goal on the weekend. She has also now scored in back-to-back Sunday SEC matches for South Carolina.
