DULUTH, Ga. — Senior Dykes Harbin moved into position to capture his first career tournament title on Monday as he posted rounds of 66 (-5) and 72 (+1) in the first two rounds of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club.

Harbin holds a three-shot lead over Georgia Southern’s Scott Wolfes and Hayden Anderson, who are both at 1-under. As a team, the Gamecocks are tied for eighth place after shooting rounds of 294-301=595 (+27).

“Dykes played some great golf today,” South Carolina head coach Bill McDonald said. “The rest of the team needs to step up. I was really disappointed in how we finished the day overall. Hopefully, tomorrow we can play with a little more focus as a team.”

A native of Augusta, Ga., Harbin played near flawless golf in the first round on his way to a career-low 66, which also ties for the sixth lowest opening-round score in school history. The only two blemishes on his scorecard were back-to-back bogeys on holes 13 and 14. He sank seven birdies in the round, including a stretch of four in five holes from holes 8-12, and nine pars.

In the second round with the winds picking up, Harbin played steady golf and was able to grind out two birdies, three bogeys and 13 pars.

Sophomore Caleb Sturgeon is the next highest Gamecock on the leaderboard as he is in a tie for 37th after shooting rounds of 73 (+2) and 78 (+7).

Sophomore Will Murphy turned in rounds of 78 (+7) and 75 (+4) and will head into the final round in a tie for 46th with a total of 153 (+11).

Senior Dean Hester is tied for 51st with rounds of 78-76=154 (+12), while freshman Matt NeSmith finished the day in a tie for 57th with rounds of 77-78=155 (+13).

The Gamecocks will look to fight their way into the top five on Tuesday as they are five strokes back of fifth-place Chattanooga (590). Georgia Southern leads the tournament with a two-round total of 283-286=569 (+1), followed by host Georgia State (581), Mercer (585) and Winthrop (587).

South Carolina will be paired with UNC Greensboro, Georgia and Chattanooga for Tuesday’s final round and will begin teeing off at 8:10 a.m. on the first tee. Live scoring will be available by clicking here.
