South Carolina sophomore goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo was named to the second-team All-SEC, the league announced today. The Welland, Ontario-native registered three shutouts and carries a 1.17 goals against average into today’s SEC Tournament first-found match against Arkansas. D’Angelo started 14 matches on the season, carrying the bulk of the load after returning to the team this fall.

D’Angelo missed the first four contests after being named to Canada’s roster for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan. In her first match back, the Gamecock notched two saves against Clemson in a double-overtime tussle on Sept. 1. In her second match of the season, she shutout East Carolina in a 3-0 victory. She also registered a career-high nine saves against #21 Missouri, in a match televised by ESPNU.

Last season, D’Angelo was named SEC Freshman of the Year and SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, making her the first player in SEC history to earn two Player of the Year honors in the same season.

Florida and Texas A&M led the league with four players combined on the All-SEC squads, including three from each roster making the top team. The Gators took Coach, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year with Becky Burleigh, Erika Tymrak and Holly King. Alabama’s Merek van Dongen was named Freshman of the Year. Rafaella Souza from Ole Miss and Allison Hu from Missouri were named Co-Scholar Athletes of the Year.
