University of South Carolina student-athletes have set a new standard in the classroom. They ended the Fall 2012 semester with the highest departmental grade point average (GPA) on record, posting a 3.267, surpassing the previous high of 3.202 set in the Fall 2011. Gamecock student-athletes have posted a combined GPA of 3.0 or better for 12 consecutive semesters.
Fifteen of the seventeen teams earned at least a 3.0 GPA, with five teams logging its highest GPA ever, including Baseball (3.201), Football (2.918), Women’s Tennis (3.611), Volleyball (3.632) and Women’s Track and Field (3.427). Women’s Soccer earned its second highest GPA on record (3.532).
Volleyball earned bragging rights as the departmental GPA leader by recording a 3.632. No team scored below a 2.75 GPA, and 12 teams improved from the previous semester. Football earned its fifth consecutive semester above a 2.70.
The department named 76 student-athletes to the President’s List (for those with a perfect 4.0 GPA), 165 to the Dean’s List, and 378 to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (3.0).

Hickman, Associate Athletics Director for Academics/Student Development. “We are proud of the success of our student-athletes and will continue to place importance on achieving academically and being a complete student-athlete.”
