Sophomore goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo recently returned from a seven-day training camp as a part of Canada’s U-23 National EXCELeration Program in Tampa Bay, Fla. D’Angelo was one of 23 players invited to be apart of a developmental squad of potential Canada’s Women’s National Team players at the camp.

EXCELeration hopes to bridge the gap between the U-20 program and the senior level program in hopes of recognizing and developing a deep player pool in advance of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup that is being held on Canadian soil.

In December, D’Angelo was named Canadian U-20 Female Player of the Year for the 2012 season. As the team’s starting goalkeeper, she played a role in helping Canada qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The keeper also touts a silver medal from the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship in Panama where she earned Canada’s Player of the Match honors in the 1-0 victory over Mexico in the group final. D’Angelo earned the distinction of being just the second goalkeeper in the 10-year history of the international competition to post shutouts in all three group stage matches.

In all, the Ontario native posted six clean sheets in 2012, including a 6-0 win over Argentina at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Japan 2012. D’Angelo also earned two call-ups to Canada’s national “A” team in 2012.
