COLUMBIA, S.C. – The seeds for the 2013 National Collegiate Equestrian Association’s National Championships have been determined, it was announced yesterday. This year’s national championships will be held April 18-20 at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas. It marks the seventh straight year that Baylor University and the City of Waco have hosted the national championship.
The NCEA is divided into two disciplines – Hunter Seat and Western, and each discipline will have its own bracket with 12 teams in it. Each of the two divisions has a 12-team seeded bracket similar to that of the NCAA basketball championships. Teams are seeded from one through 12 and placed accordingly into the bracket.
In the Hunt Seat bracket, the Gamecocks earned the No. 2 seed with a 9-5 record. South Carolina receives a first-round by and will face the winner of the (7) Oklahoma State/(10) Texas A&M opening round meet.
In the Western bracket, South Carolina earned the No. 5 seed with an 8-5 record. The Gamecocks will face twelfth-seeded New Mexico State in the opening round, with the winner advancing to face No. 4 seed TCU.
