COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior Alison Ceresani was named to the 2013 SEC Community Service team, it was announced today. Ceresani joins student-athletes from Auburn, Georgia, and Texas A&M on the inaugural equestrian community service team, a group whose superior service is recognized by the Southeastern Conference.

“This is a very deserving honor for Ali and we are all proud of her,” South Carolina head coach Boo Major said. “Ali represents our team and our University in a first-class manner wherever she goes, and she does a lot to help make our community a better place. She is a great role model as student-athlete and as a community service leader and we are excited for her to receive this recognition.”

Ceresani was named to the Community Service Team for her efforts with a variety of organizations. She has volunteered with Pets, Inc., helping care for rescued animals with a local animal shelter. She also participated in Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that helps build affordable housing for people in need. Ceresani also volunteers at a local Goodwill store and at a local soup kitchen where she helps make meals for homeless people in Columbia.

A two-year starter in Horsemanship, Ceresani was a 2012 NCEA Honorable Mention All-America selection after going 13-3-1 last season. She has a 4.0 GPA and is one five equestrians who were NCEA Academic First Team selections this year. Ceresani is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has made the President’s List every semester.
