COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head coach Boo Major has announced the signing of Chloe Schmidt (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield High School) to a national letter of intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2013-2014 season. Schmidt will be competing with South Carolina’s Hunt Seat team, which made it to the semifinals at this year’s NCEA National Championship.
“I’m thrilled to have Chloe join us for next season,” Major said. “Chloe has gotten some good mileage under her belt during her youth career and she’s certainly going to be a good addition for us. “I think she’s going to be able to help us out Over Fences and we’re also going to give her a look on the Flat too.”
A talented and accomplished rider, Schmidt trains with Andre Dignelli at Heritage Farm. Schmidt has qualified for the USEF Medal Finals, Talent Search Finals, and the Maclay Finals in each of the past two years. In 2011, she had top-15 finishes at both the USEF and Maclay Finals. Last year, she garnered a top-30 finish at the Maclay Finals. Also in 2012, Schmidt won the USEF Medal Class at the Devon Horse Show, while placing in equitation at Devon and the Hampton Classic.
A senior at Ridgefield High School in Ridgefield, Conn., Schmidt has made the honor roll every semester during her high school career. While at South Carolina, Schmidt plans to major in Business at the Darla Moore School of Business.
Her parents are Michael and Paula Schmidt, and she has two older sisters – Carol Ann and and Katherine. Her sister Katherine Schmidt is currently a sophomore on the Gamecock equestrian team.
