COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina women’s golf program has signed Jiaxin Yang to a National Letter of Intent for the 2013-14 season, head coach Kalen Harris announced Wednesday.

Yang, who will join the Gamecocks after graduating from Dongfang Basuo High School of Hainan, China, will come to Columbia with an abundance of international experience.

“I’m thrilled to have Jiaxin joining the Gamecocks,” Harris said. “She has a wealth of international playing experience. Jiaxin will make significant contributions to our lineup. She has the ability to go low, but most importantly she is a very consistent player. I look forward to assisting Jiaxin in reaching her individual goals.”

A native of Haikou City, China, Yang has compiled an impressive list of accolades playing around the world. She began playing golf at the age of 10 and worked her way to the top of the China junior golf rankings in 2009. She was also the top-ranked amateur in China in both 2010 and 2011 and is a two-time winner of the China Citic Bank Amateur Golf Tour Player of the Year (2009, 2011). Since 2009, she has captured 15 tournament titles, including the China Amateur Championship (2009), the China Junior Championship (2009) and the Future Collegians World Tour National Championship (2012). She finished runner-up at the 2012 China Golf National Championship with rounds of 71-69-69-72=281 (-7). She also played in the 2010 Ladies European Tour Sanya Open and finished tied for 24th with rounds of 77-70-69=216 (E).

Yang has been playing on the Suncoast Ladies Professional Tour in Orlando, Fla., as an amateur this year and has compiled three top-five finishes and four top-15 finishes since January.

Yang joins early signee Katelyn Dambaugh to make up this year’s signing class. The duo will join a South Carolina program that has won two NCAA East Regional titles and made four NCAA Championship appearances under Harris’ guidance.
