IMG College and Kirkman Broadcasting have reached an agreement with WWIK-FM (98.9 ESPN Radio) to become Charleston’s new exclusive radio home of South Carolina Athletics, it was announced today. Under the terms of the agreement, 98.9 FM will carry all Gamecock football, men’s basketball and baseball games, along with the “Carolina Calls” coaches’ shows. In addition, all broadcasts will be simulcast on sister station WTMZ 910 AM.

Thanks to its massive, 50,000-watt signal, 98.9 FM will allow fans in the Lowcountry and all along the South Carolina coast to follow every minute of Gamecock radio programming.

“We have been dedicated to sports in the Charleston area for over 28 years and we are very proud to have the University of South Carolina in our family of sports franchises,” said Gil Kirkman, owner and president of Kirkman Broadcasting. “Kirkman Broadcasting is looking forward to many years of Gamecock sports on our stations.”

Kirkman Broadcasting’s coverage of Gamecock baseball will begin this weekend at the Chapel Hill Super Regional. Friday and Saturday’s games will air on 98.9 FM. Sunday’s game (if necessary) will air on sister station WQNT-AM (Sports Radio 1450 AM).

“We are thrilled to add 98.9 FM and 910 AM, in Charleston, to the Gamecock Radio Network,” said Liz McMillan, General Manager of Gamecock Sports Marketing. “This will offer an excellent radio signal for all of our sports to fans from Charleston and along the coast of South Carolina. Gil Kirkman and his staff have been long time supporters and we are pleased to have them as part of the Gamecock family.”

The Gamecock IMG Sports Network currently has 30 affiliate stations across the state of South Carolina.
