NORMAN, Okla. — South Carolina rising sophomore Chelsey Couch carded a 79 (+7) on Monday to open play in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course.

Couch finished the day in a tie for 97th and will need to finish in the top 64 after Tuesday’s second round to advance to match play. Annie Park and Doris Chen share the lead after each shooting a 68 (-4) on Monday.

A native of Ware Shoals, S.C., Couch was one of 156 golfers to qualify for the championship out of more than 700 entrants. She earned her spot in the field by shooting a 74 (+3) to finish in the top five in a qualifier at The Oaks Course in Covington, Ga., in May.

Couch is slated to tee off in the second round at 8 a.m. CDT on Tuesday off the first tee. Live scoring is available at usga.org.
