COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina sophomore Sarah Schmelzel and junior Justine Dreher continued their solid play in different parts of the world on Wednesday. Schmelzel carded a second-round 72 to make the cut at the 83rd Trans National Amateur Championship at Schaffer’s Mill Golf and Lake Club in Truckee, Calif., while Dreher led Team France to the quarterfinals of the European Ladies’ Amateur Team Championship at Fulford Golf Club in York, England.

Schmelzel finished the day in fourth place with a two-round total of 143 (-1) to advance to the final two days of stroke play, as the top 60 golfers made the cut. She will enter the third round six strokes back of tournament leader Ashlan Ramsey, who has a total of 137 (-7). A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Schmelzel recorded two birdies and two bogeys for her round. Third-round play will be contested on Thursday.

At the European Amateur Team Championship, Dreher fired a team-low 3-under 69 to lead Team France to a tie for sixth finish at the conclusion of stroke play. France finished the two rounds with a total of 741 (+21) and will be the No. 7 seed at the beginning of match play on Thursday. Dreher and Team France will face Spain, the No. 2 seed with a total of 732 (+12). A native of Valbonne, France, Dreher finished tied for 15th in the individual standings with a total of 146 (+2).
