BROOKLINE, Mass. — South Carolina sophomores Matt NeSmith and Will Starke fell short of the cut after the second round of stroke play on Tuesday at the U.S. Amateur Championship at The Country Club.

NeSmith carded a 3-over 73 to finish the championship in a tie for 108th with a total of 147 (+7). Starke shot a second-round 78 (+8) and finished tied for 182nd with a total of 151 (+11). The cut for the 312-golfer field was 4-over 144. The low 64 scorers advanced to six rounds of match play, which will conclude with a 36-hole championship match on Sunday.

NeSmith and Starke will now join their Gamecock teammates to begin preparations for the 2013-14 season. South Carolina opens its schedule on Sept. 6-8 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga.
