COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore midfielder Ryan Arambula and junior defender Braeden Troyer earned placement on the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today.
The pair extends South Carolina’s streak of placing at least one student-athlete on the all-district squad to eight years, dating back to 2006. The two advance to the national ballot, with results from that vote set for late November.
Arambula currently ranks sixth in Conference USA in assists per game and is tied for the team lead in assists with four. The sophomore has connected with junior defender Mahamoudou Kaba for four goals on set-piece plays this season, including the game winner against Presbyterian and equalizers at Clemson and Charlotte.
After making the switch from midfielder to center back this season, Troyer has played a key role in the Gamecocks’ six shutouts. Both of Troyer’s goals this season have come in conference play, including a game-winner at Charlotte. He has started all but one of his 52 career matches in the Garnet and Black. This is Troyer’s second all-district honor after earning the distinction in 2012.
Clemson and Winthrop join South Carolina as teams that had two players each make the Capital One Academic All-District 4 team while Mercer, Stetson, Presbyterian and UAB had one honoree recognized.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program honors student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a sophomore academically and athletically and a starter or significant contributor to the team. All-District honorees from the eight geographical districts will be placed on the national ballot.
South Carolina is on the road at No. 10 UAB on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET. The Gamecocks close out the regular season at home against No. 24 Old Dominion on Saturday, November 9 at 7 p.m.
