COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina senior outside hitter Juliette Thévenin has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Southeast Region Team, the AVCA announced Tuesday.
Thévenin, who was one of 14 student-athletes to make the team, becomes the first Gamecock selected to the squad since Shonda Cole earned a spot on the All-South Region team in 2006. She is now eligible for selection to the AVCA All-America Team, which will be announced on Dec. 18.
“We are so excited that Jules earned All-Region honors and are proud of her accomplishments during her four years as a Gamecock,” South Carolina head coach Scott Swanson said. “Juliette will now get to make an impact on the new sand volleyball program for the next two seasons, which should be very exciting.”
A native of Mont-sur-Marchinne, Belgium, Thévenin wrapped up her Gamecock career in strong fashion, finishing her senior year ranked first in the SEC and 11th nationally in kills per set (4.57) and first in the conference in points per set (4.91). She closed out the year with the second most kills (466) and second best kills per set average (4.57) in school history in the rally-scoring era.
Thévenin will leave South Carolina as one of the most decorated players in school history, finishing her career ranked in the top 10 in six career categories. She ranks third all-time at South Carolina in kills (1,590), second in kills per set (4.07), second in attacks (4,076), ninth in digs (1,012), fourth in points (1,744.5) and third in points per set (4.46). She became just the second Gamecock of record to have more than 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
Missouri claimed both Southeast Region individual awards, as outside hitter Carly Kan was named Freshman of the Year and head coach Wayne Kreklow was named Coach of the Year.
