KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The South Carolina women’s soccer team was awarded by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as one of 254 teams to receive the organization’s Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for 2013. The Gamecocks were one of 72 teams to receive the Bronze version after receiving no more than 10 yellow cards this season and no red cards.

Teams received either the Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

The ethics award is the second team award for the squad for the 2013 season after previously earning the NSCAA’s Team Academic Award with a 3.42 team GPA for the 2012-13 academic year. It was the 13th time since 2001 that the Gamecocks have earned the academic award under Head Coach Shelley Smith.
