COLUMBIA, S.C. — Players of all levels can now register for the 2014 South Carolina volleyball camps, which will be led by Gamecock head coach Scott Swanson and his staff.
The camps will begin at the end of April and run through July and will be held at the Volleyball Competition Facility and University of South Carolina facilities.
“We are always excited to host a new season of camps here at the University of South Carolina,” Swanson said. “We are continually taking feedback on how to improve our camps from the previous year and want to maximize the camper experience. Our goal is to have every camper leave our camps with a stronger skill set and a greater knowledge of the game.”
The Gamecock volleyball camp season opens with the Gamecock Academy. A total of 11 sessions will be offered to players of all levels on every Monday and Wednesday night beginning on April 28 and ending on May 28. Campers will receive advanced instruction on all areas and can attend each session for $30 or buy all 11 sessions and get one free.
Volley-School, a camp for boys and girls ages 6-10, will be held on Thursday nights in May and will cover all basic fundamentals of the game and will give campers the opportunity to enjoy new and exciting ways to learn the game. Each session of Volley-School is $30, or campers can buy all the sessions and get one free.
The Serving Academy, a new camp for 2014, will be held on Tuesday nights from April 29 through May 27 and will focus on helping improve the most essential skills of the game. Campers of all levels can attend each session for $15 or buy all sessions and get one free.
The Gamecocks will offer a second new camp called the Speed & Conditioning Camp on Tuesday nights after the Serving Academy. Each session will be $15, or campers can buy all sessions and get one free.
The Gamecock Team Camp, one of the fastest growing team camps in the southeast, is scheduled for July 11-13. Teams will have the opportunity to compete against other teams in the area prior to the start of high school season. Campers will learn advanced drills and team dynamics from the entire Gamecock volleyball program. The camp, which is intended for high school varsity programs only and is limited to the first 20 teams, costs $180 per athlete once a deposit is received from the team’s head coach.
Players looking to take their game to the next level can attend the Elite Skills Camp, which will be held July 14-15. This camp will be run like a typical Gamecock practice, and campers will scrimmage against other campers and the camp staff. Cost for this day camp is $180 per athlete.
The Gamecocks will also be offering a Satellite Team Camp for the first time this year. For more information on this opportunity, please contact South Carolina director of volleyball operations Amanda Brungs at abrungs@mailbox.sc.edu.
