COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team will join Gamecock fans at Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday prior to the men’s basketball game against Vanderbilt for the eighth annual Spurs & Saddles event.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to come out on Wednesday night, and we certainly appreciate coach Martin inviting us out,” Gamecock head coach Boo Major said. “This event is something we look forward to every year, because it gives our wonderful fans an opportunity to meet our team and some of our horses. The kids always enjoy getting to see the horses and hop on for a photo, and it really is a fun thing to do on your way in to the game on Wednesday.”

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Gamecock fans will get the chance to meet and take photos with the riders and horses by the fountain outside of Colonial Life Arena. The event will end at 8 p.m.., the scheduled start time for the basketball game. Spurs & Saddles is ideal for families with children as well as anyone wishing to stop by to visit with the 2013 SEC Champions.

There is no charge to participate in the event, and fans will be able to have their picture taken with the riders and horses. The athletics department will have a photographer outside at the event with the team that will be taking photos, and fans will be able to pose for photos with the team and horses, and then download the photos from GamecocksOnline.com beginning on Thursday. There will be team schedule posters available for free along with a limited supply of posters commemorating last year’s SEC Championship team, and fans will be able to get the posters autographed.

The Gamecock equestrian team is currently ranked No. 1 in the country for the 11th consecutive week. The Gamecocks return to One Wood Farm in Blythewood on Feb. 22 when they host Texas A&M at 10 a.m. Admission to all Gamecock equestrian meets are free.
