Gamecocks Tied for First After Round One of Florida State Match-Up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –

The South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 5-over 293 on Friday at the SouthWood Golf Club to finish in a tie for first place after one round of the Florida State Match-Up hosted by Florida State University.

Texas A&M is tied with South Carolina at the top of the leaderboard, Florida State is currently in third place with 6-over 294 and Clemson finished the day in fourth place with a 9-over 297.

Sophomore Sarah Schmelzel carded the low round for the Garnet & Black with a 2-under 70 and is currently in second place. Senior Suzie Lee finished the day in a tie for ninth place after shooting a 1-over 73.

Freshman Katelyn Dambaugh carded a 2-over 74 and is currently in a tie for 12th place.

Junior Justine Dreher and senior Samantha Swinehart shot opening rounds of 76 (+4) and 77 (+5), respectively. Dreher finished the day in tie for 27th place and Swinehart is in a tie for 34th place.

In her collegiate debut, freshman Jia Xin Yang, who is competing in the tournament as an individual, shot an even-par 72 and is currently in tie for fifth place.

Matilda Castren of Florida State is currently at the top of the individual leaderboard after shooting a 4-under 68. Just two strokes behind Castren in second place is Schemelzel with a 2-under 70. Thanruttra Boonraksasat of Kansas and Katerina Ruzickova of Texas A&M are currently tied for third place with a score of 71 (-1).

Second round play is scheduled to begin Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available here
