Elem Ibiam Named to SEC Women's Basketball Community Service Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior Elem Ibiam was named to the SEC Women’s Basketball Community Service Team, the league announced today. In addition to working basketball camps and with Special Olympics, the Gamecocks’ center has participated in the University-wide “Service Saturday.”

Ibiam has worked with her teammates to provide Christmas gifts for are families in need each year. She has spent time with the Olive Christian Ministry, JP Thomas Elementary School, Relay for Life, Tunnels to Towers Charity Run/Walk, Greek Festival and Courtney Crooms Memorial Tournament. Ibiam worked with other student-athletes to plant a garden at Carver Lyons Elementary School and worked with Special Olympics.

In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC named its Community Service Team for women’s basketball for the 15th season. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999 to 2003.
