Gamecocks Ranked No. 12 in Golf World/WGCA Poll

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Women’s golf team is ranked 12th in the first Golf World/WGCA Division I College Coaches’ Poll of the spring. No. 12 is the highest ever ranking achieved by South Carolina in this poll.

The Gamecocks opened their spring season with a first place finish at the Florida State Match-Up in Tallahassee, Fla. South Carolina had five golfers place in the top-20, including a second place finish from sophomore Sarah Schmelzel.

Southern California remains No. 1 in the rankings and UCLA claimed the No. 2 spot. Duke, Arizona State and Washington round out the top-5, respectively.

Along with South Carolina, six other SEC schools are ranked in the latest poll including two in the top-10 with Alabama at No. 6 and Arkansas at No. 7.

South Carolina also moved up in the latest Golfstat rankings coming in at No. 13. Southern California earned the No. 1 spot with UCLA and Duke rounding out the top-3.

The Gamecocks will be back in action March 7-9 when they host the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
