Gamecocks Jump Back Into Golfstat Top 25, Ranked 19th by Golfweek

March 19, 2014

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina men’s golf team climbed in the latest Golfweek and Golfstat rankings released this week.

The Gamecocks moved up seven spots to No. 24 in the Golfstat Relative Rankings and rose to No. 19 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.

South Carolina made the move in the rankings after winning its third tournament title of the season this week, claiming the Seahawk Intercollegiate by 19 strokes with a total of 560 (-16), which is the third best 36-hole total in school history. The win also gave the Gamecocks their sixth-straight finish of third or better, matching the 1998-99 team’s streak of six-straight top-three finishes for the best stretch in school history. Sophomore Will Starke captured medalist honors at the event with a total of 137 (-7), the fifth lowest 36-hole total in school history.

The Gamecocks, who have an 81-14-1 head-to-head record this season, will return to tournament play on March 23-25 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event will be held at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.
