Gamecocks Lose to Fourth-Ranked Florida State, 5-0

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. — The South Carolina sand volleyball team dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 4 Florida State on Saturday morning in the College of Charleston Sand Classic at the Creekside Tennis and Swim Club.

The Gamecocks fall to 4-10 on the season with the loss, while the Seminoles improve to 11-1.

In the No. 1 pairs match, South Carolina’s Paige Wheeler and Megan Kent battled with Florida State’s Jace Pardon and Aurora Davis in the first set before falling 21-15. Kent and Wheeler then lost the match with a 21-9 loss in the second set.

On court No. 2, the Gamecocks’ pair of Mikaela Christiaansen and Sarah Blomgren fell in the first set to the Seminoles’ Kristina Pellitteri and Stephanie Pellitteri by the score of 21-15. The South Carolina duo fought to extend the match in the second set, going back and forth with the Seminoles’ pair before coming up short and losing 22-20.

South Carolina’s Jordan Loney and Jade Vitt fell in straight sets to Florida State’s Melanie Pavels and Julie Brown on court No. 3 by the scores of 21-10 and 21-13.

The Gamecocks’ No. 4 pair of Chynna Ratner and Litsa Darby lost to the Seminoles’ Fatma Yildirim and Sarah Wickstrom in two sets by the scores of 21-12 and 21-17.

In the No. 5 pairs match, Florida State’s Annie Montgomery and Julia Thompson defeated South Carolina’s KoKo Atoa-Williams and Erin Neuenfeldt, 21-12 and 21-17. The Gamecocks’ Helen Récaborde and Morgan LaVigne faced Florida State’s Sierra Sanchez and Hailey Luke in an exhibition match and fell by the scores of 21-10 and 21-9.

The Gamecocks will be back in action at noon today against College of Charleston.
