Gamecocks End Weekend with 4-1 Loss to No. 8 Georgia State

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. — The South Carolina sand volleyball team closed out play at the College of Charleston Sand Classic with a 4-1 loss to No. 8 Georgia State on Sunday afternoon at Creekside Tennis and Swim Club.
The Gamecocks (4-12) picked up their lone point in the No. 5 pairs match. South Carolina’s KoKo Atoa-Williams and Erin Neuenfeldt, who went 2-1 on the weekend, defeated Georgia State’s Alexis Townsend and Delaney Rohan in three sets by the scores of 21-13, 17-21 and 16-14.
On court No. 1, the Gamecocks’ pair of Paige Wheeler and Megan Kent lost in two sets to the Panthers’ Moriah Bellissimo and Katie Madewell, 21-18 and 21-19.
In the No. 2 pairs match, Georgia State’s Jansen Button and Sara Olivova defeated South Carolina’s Mikaela Christiaansen and Sarah Blomgren by the scores of 21-16 and 21-16.
South Carolina’s No. 3 pair of Jordan Loney and Jade Vitt dropped a two-set decision to the Panthers’ Sarah Agnew and Katelyn Rawls, 24-22 and 21-12, while the Gamecocks’ No. 4 pair of Litsa Darby and Chynna Ratner lost to Georgia State’s Milani Pickering and Natalie Wilson, 21-13 and 21-11.
In an exhibition match, Georgia State’s Karlee Kavanaugh and Alexis Elmurr topped South Carolina’s Morgan LaVigne and Helen Récaborde by the scores of 21-19 and 21-11.
The Gamecocks will be back in action on April 12-13 at the Fiesta on Siesta Pairs Tournament in Siesta Key, Fla.
