BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –

After nearly four hours of rain delayed the start times, the opening round of the SEC Championship has been suspended due to darkness until Saturday. Eleven teams were able to finish the first round while the last group of Arkansas, South Carolina and Alabama still has between one and five holes to complete.

When play was halted, the Gamecocks were tied for fifth place at 13 over par. Arkansas is leading at six over par while LSU finished the round with a 7-over 295 and is currently in second place.

Sophomore Sarah Schmelzel and junior Justine Dreher are both two over par through 15 and 12 holes, respectively.

Senior Suzie Lee made it through 15 holes at four over par.

Freshman Katelyn Dambaugh and senior Samantha Swinehart both completed 12 holes in the opening round at five and six over par, respectively.

First round play will resume Saturday at 8 a.m. CT with the second round expected to begin at 10 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available here.
