COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina volleyball program released its 2014 schedule on Monday, which features 12 matches against teams that made last year’s NCAA Tournament.

South Carolina will play 31 matches in all, including 15 at the Volleyball Competition Facility.

“We are really looking forward to the fall when we get to compete against some great competition,” said South Carolina head coach Scott Swanson, who will be in his fourth season with the Gamecocks. “We are excited that we will host two preseason tournaments that will give our fans a great preview of our talented, young team. The SEC will be highly competitive as usual, and we are looking forward to the challenges that league play will bring.”

For the second consecutive season, the Gamecocks will play in four tournaments prior to their SEC schedule. South Carolina will host the Gamecock Invitational to open the season on Aug. 29-30 and will face Gardner Webb, Jacksonville and Georgia Tech during the weekend. The Dolphins made last year’s NCAA Tournament after winning the Atlantic Sun Tournament.

In their first road action of the season, the Gamecocks will play in the Winthrop Invitational on Sept. 5-6 in Rock Hill, S.C., where they will play rival Clemson, Furman and Winthrop. South Carolina will remain on the road the following week as it is slated to play in the Campbell Invitational on Sept. 12-13 in Buies Creek, N.C., with matches against Campbell, Elon and North Florida.

The Gamecocks will close out their tournament schedule at home as they will host the Carolina Classic on Sept. 19-20 and will take on Norfolk State, Eastern Kentucky and The Citadel.

Of South Carolina’s 18 SEC matches, 11 will be against teams that played in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The Gamecocks host Ole Miss and Kentucky, a 2013 NCAA Tournament participant, in their first SEC weekend on Sept. 26 and 28.

After hitting the road for matches at Mississippi State (Oct. 3), Auburn (Oct. 5) and Alabama (Oct. 12), South Carolina will return home for its first mid-week match against Florida on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The Gators advanced to the round of 32 at the NCAA Tournament last season.

Texas A&M, another NCAA Tournament team, comes to Columbia on Sunday, Oct. 19 before the Gamecocks play their final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Coastal Carolina. The Gamecocks will then host Mississippi State and Missouri, the 2013 SEC Champion, on Oct. 24 and 26.

Six of South Carolina’s final eight SEC matches will be against NCAA Tournament teams. The Gamecocks will play at LSU and Ole Miss on Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, respectively.

The Gamecocks will wrap up their season series with Alabama at home on Nov. 9 and then head to Arkansas on Friday, Nov. 14.

After playing Auburn at home on Nov. 16, South Carolina will play three-straight road matches, with the first being at Tennessee on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The Gamecocks will then face Georgia, another NCAA Tournament squad, on Sunday, Nov. 23 before closing out their road slate at Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

South Carolina will wrap up its regular season at home on Nov. 29 against LSU.

The SEC Network will carry a full slate of SEC volleyball matches this season, both on the channel and the digital platform. The schedule for these games will be released at a later date. The SEC Network will launch on Aug. 14.
