The South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 5-under 283 on Friday in the second round of the NCAA East Regional at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.

“I think [our performance today] was pretty phenomenal, but its close to what we’ve been doing all year,” said director of golf/assistant coach Puggy Blackmon. “The girls don’t ever quit. We [struggled a little] on the back nine today and the wind got up on us this afternoon. Our girls battled back on the front side. We’re tied for third place now and we’re right where we want to be.”

The Gamecocks have a two-round score of 574 (-2) and are currently tied for third place with Tulane. Vanderbilt remains in first place with a 10-uner 566 and Duke finished the round in second place with a 4-under 572.

Samantha Swinehart, Justine Dreher and Katelyn Dambaugh all shot a 2-under 70 in the second round. Swinehart tallied four birdies and two bogeys, concluding the round with a total score of 143 (-1) and in a tie for 15^th place. Dreher began the round with an eagle on the 10^th hole, bogeyed three times on the back side, but then recorded three birdies on the front nine. She is currently tied for 27^th place with a two-round score of 145 (+1). Dambaugh finished the back nine at two over par but followed with four consecutive birdies to open the front nine. She has a two-round score of 146 (+2) and is currently tied for 33^rd place.

Sarah Schmelzel carded a 1-over 73 in the second round, giving her a two-round score of 144 (E) and putting her in a tie for 24^th place.

Suzie Lee finished the round in a tie for 68^th place to round out the lineup. Lee shot a 6-over 78 for a two-round score of 150 (+6).

Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford moved into first place on the individual leaderboard with a two-round score of 139 (-5). Celine Boutier and Sandy Choi, both from Duke, are tied for second place with a two-round score of 140 (-4).

South Carolina is scheduled to tee off at 8:51 a.m. ET on Saturday in the final round and will be paired with Virginia and Stanford. Live scoring is available through Golfstat.
