Gamecocks Climb to 16th After Third Round of NCAA Championship

The South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 3-over 283 on Thursday in the third round of the NCAA Championship at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. and is currently in 16^th place with a total score of 883 (+43).

The Gamecocks third round score of 283 is their lowest round of the tournament and 16 strokes lower than their second round score.

“The team rebounded well today,” said head coach Kalen Harris. “They took advantage of the early morning scoring conditions. We will look to post a solid round again tomorrow and continue to move up the leaderboard.”

Duke finished the round at the top of the leaderboard with a total score of 856 (+16). Southern California and Oklahoma round out the top-three with scores of 862 (+22) and 866 (+26), respectively.

Senior Samantha Swinehart carded the low round of the day for the Gamecocks, turning in a 2-under 68. She tallied three birdies and a bogey on the day. Swinehart moved 30 spots up the leaderboard and is currently tied for 20^th place with a three-round score of 217 (+7).

Sophomore Sarah Schmelzel and Senior Suzie Lee both shot a third-round 1-over 73. Schmelzel recorded two birdies and three bogeys on the day. She has a total score of 222 (+12) and is currently tied for 57^th place. Lee finished the round in a tie for 69^th place with a three-round score of 224 (+14).

Freshman Katelyn Dambaugh and junior Justine Dreher both carded a 3-over 73 in the third round. Dambaugh is currently tied for 77^th place with a three-round score of 225 (+15). Dreher has a total score of 226 (+16) and finished the day in a tie for 84^th place.

Celine Boutier of Duke and Doris Chen of Southern California are tied for first place on the individual leaderboard with a score of 207 (-3).

South Carolina is scheduled to tee off at 7:55 a.m. CT on Friday in the fourth and final round and will be paired with Texas A&M and Virginia. Live scoring is available through Golfstat.
