June 4, 2014

MOSCOW – South Carolina guard Tiffany Mitchell and her USA teammates open play in the 2014 FIBA 3×3 World Championships on Thursday at Luzhniki Park in Moscow. The U.S. team is seeded 12th in the 24-team field.

Joining Mitchell on the four-person Team USA are Cierra Burdick (Tennessee/Charlotte, N.C.), Sara Hammond (Louisville/Mt. Vernon, Ky.) and Jewell Loyd (Notre Dame/Lincolnwood, Ill.). The group will play five games in pool play, after which the top four teams in each pool advance to the knock-out rounds.

Team USA opens Pool D play against 13th-seeded Hungary on Thursday at 9:40 a.m. (ET) before taking on Brazil, the No. 5 seed, at 11:40 a.m. (ET). Friday’s three-game slate opens at 8:20 a.m. (ET) against 20th-seed Ukraine, followed by games against No. 4 seed Spain and Argentina, the No. 21 seed, at 10:20 a.m. (ET) and 12:40 p.m. (ET), respectively.

Three of Team USA’s five pool games will be played on Court 1, which has a live video stream. Fans can watch Mitchell and her teammates against Hungary and Brazil Thursday morning and on Friday vs. Spain.

This year’s event is the second edition of the FIBA 3×3 World Championship. The inaugural event, held in Athens, Greece, saw the U.S. women bring home the gold. The team featured Skylar Diggins, Bria Hartley, Chiney Ogwumike and Ann Strother.

In 3×3 action, games are played on a half court and last 10 minutes or until one team scores 21 points. Baskets scored inside the arc, including free throws, are worth one point, and those scored outside the arc are two points. If the score is tied at the end of regulation, the teams play overtime with the winner the first to score two points. Rules for 3×3 Games Get Acrobat Reader
