Sturgeon Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina rising senior Caleb Sturgeon has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of American announced Wednesday.

Sturgeon is one of 207 Division I golfers honored. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championship, have a stroke average under 76 and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.

A native of Laurens, S.C., Sturgeon played in all 12 events in 2013-14 and helped lead the Gamecocks to a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championship, the second best finish at the event in school history. He finished the year with a stroke average of 72.89 and recorded four top-20 finishes, including a win at the Badger Invitational.
