Sturgeon Finishes Tied for Third at SCGA Amateur Championship

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — South Carolina senior Caleb Sturgeon finished tied for third at the 83rd South Carolina Golf Association Amateur Championship on Sunday at The Reserve Golf Club.
The final round of the championship was canceled due to unplayable course conditions. A native of Laurens, S.C., Sturgeon finished the weekend with a 54-hole total of 210 (-5) after shooting rounds of 71, 70 and 69 on the first three days. Andrew Novak of Mount Pleasant, S.C., won the championship with a total of 207 (-8).
South Carolina junior Will Starke finished just outside the top 20, tying for 21st with a total of 218 (+3). He carded rounds of 76, 73 and 69. Incoming Gamecock freshman Keenan Huskey tied for 42nd with a total of 225 (+10), shooting rounds of 74, 79 and 72.
Sturgeon will be back in action at the 114th U.S. Amateur Championship on Aug. 11-17 at The Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga. He will be joined by fellow Gamecocks Will Murphy and Matt NeSmith.
