CARY, N.C. – South Carolina seniors Andrew Adams and Kyle Koch saw their run in the ITA Carolina Regional end with a tough quarterfinal loss to the No. 9 doubles team in the nation Sunday at Cary Tennis Park. The Gamecocks’ top tandem has advanced to the quarters of both tournaments so far this fall.

Adams and Koch reached the quarterfinals with a tiebreak win on Saturday to set up Sunday’s showdown with the toughest opponent they have faced as a team. Ian Dempster and Robbie Mudge were 22-5 overall last season, including a 14-4 mark in the top spot in the NC State dual-match lineup. Adams and Koch went 12-5 last season after first teaming up in early March. The seniors opened this season with strong performances at the SEC Fall Classic in September, reaching the quarterfinals before falling to the nation’s 42nd-ranked team.

In this week’s event, Adams and Koch were similarly dominant, winning their first two matches 8-3 and 8-1, respectively, before Coastal Carolina’s duo pushed them to a tiebreak in Saturday’s round of 16. In Sunday’s quarterfinal, the Wolfpack’s top team took an early lead and held off the Gamecocks for an 8-4 victory that closed the book on South Carolina’s participation in the event.

South Carolina will be back in action in two weeks at the USTA Disney Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
