KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The South Carolina men’s and women’s soccer programs both garnered the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 academic year by posting a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, according to the coaches organization in its annual release.
The Gamecock men tallied a 3.35 GPA last year to rank in the top 15 in NCAA Division I. It’s the ninth time Mark Berson’s program has been honored by the NSCAA in this manner, twice before posting the best GPA in NCAA Division I (in 2009-10 and 2012-13).
South Carolina’s women posted a 3.50 GPA, putting them in the top 32 in NCAA Division I. For Shelley Smith and her group, they take the award home for the 11th time since 2002.
A total of 75 NCAA Division I men’s and women’s teams both took the award, with 861 college soccer teams (279 men, 582 women) overall collecting the honor in 2013-14.
