A’ja Wilson from the South Carolina women’s basketball team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

She was the team’s top rebounder and second-highest scorer for the week, helping the Gamecocks to Junkanoo Jam Lucaya Division title. Wilson led the team in scoring and tied a career high with three steals against Wisconsin in playing just 21 minutes.

Wilson then posted her first career double-double against Syracuse in playing 26 minutes. She scored eight of her 15 points against Syracuse as the only Gamecock scorer in a 3:30 span midway through the second half to keep the Orange within reach. She was the central figure in the final two minutes of the win over Syracuse, blocking a shot that helped force a shot-clock violation, grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back for a four-point lead, then swiping a steal with 28 seconds left to force Syracuse into fouling to stay in the game.
