COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior Elem Ibiam was named to the SEC Women’s Basketball Community Service Team for the second-straight season, the league has announced. The Gamecocks’ center has displayed great commitment to community outreach throughout her career, doing many projects outside of the work the team does as a whole.

Ibiam has spent time at local elementary schools being interviewed by students learning about journalism and has also been apart of a panel about being a student-athlete. The Fayetteville, Ga., native has served lunch to the homeless and has volunteered at several run/walk events for local charities. Ibiam also pitched in with an event at a local orphanage hosted by the Sheriff’s Office.

In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted a Community Service Team for women’s basketball for the 2014-15 season. This marks the 17th year for the SEC Community Service Team for women’s basketball as well as for men’s basketball. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
