Chatkevicius Honored as Part of SEC Community Service Team
March 9, 2015
COLUMBIA, S.C. – In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted a Community Service Team for men’s basketball for the 2014-15 season. Junior forward Laimonas Chatkevicius earned the distinction from South Carolina.
The Klapeda, Lithuania native has done extensive work in his adopted community of Columbia, volunteering for the “Mayor’s Back to School Drills and Skills” event as well as the “8K In 8 Days” campaign, where he visited military families at Fort Jackson. He helped to host an event with Special Olympics, and also visited local schools in partnership with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Among many other efforts, Laimonas participated in a food drive with Harvest Hope Food Bank and also worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
This marks the 17th year for the SEC Community Service Team for men’s basketball as well as for women’s basketball. All 21 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004.
