COLUMBIA, S.C — For the second-straight week, South Carolina junior Will Starke has been named the SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Starke receives the honor for the third time in his career following a third-place finish over the weekend at the Seminole Intercollegiate, where he carded rounds of 68 (-4), 69 (-3) and 66 (-6) to lead South Carolina to a third-place finish.
A native of Chapin, S.C., Starke’s 54-hole total of 203 (-13) at the Seminole Intercollegiate is tied for the fifth lowest 54-hole total in school history. The third-place finish is Starke’s sixth top-five finish this season, which is tied for the most in a single season in school history with Kyle Thompson (1998-99). He has also shot in the 60s in 15 of his last 17 rounds, including eight straight rounds. Starke’s stroke average of 69.33 currently leads the SEC.
Starke and the Gamecocks will play in their fourth tournament of the spring on March 23-24 at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole event will be contested at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
